The Rheinland Restaurant
As you tour the historic square in Independence, just a few blocks past the late President Harry
S. Truman home, you will come to The Rheinland Restaurant. For authentic German cuisine,
you could not have found a better place to stop. Owner Heinz Heinzelman and his wife,
Rosie, moved here from Germany in 1989. Never quite satisfied with the German food they
were finding, they decided to open their own restaurant in 1991. The Rheinland serves casual
fine dining in a warm family atmosphere. Chef Rosie honors the traditions of her homeland.
All meals are made from scratch. With 15 years behind them, The Rheinland has become
synonymous with excellence when it comes to German fare. The menu boasts six varieties
of schnitzel, six choices of German wurst, rouladen with rot kohl and spaetzle, and not to be
forgotten, sauerbraten and roastbraten. This is as authentic as it gets. They will even cater
it for you if you like. Named after a province that rests along the shores of the Rhein River,
Rheinland encompasses the best of old Germany. Visit Heinz and Rosie the next time you are
in Independence, and you will get a sense of what it was like to dine along the Rhein.
